Project wood Stool
Problem type
This problem type is Unfamiliar/Past! Its something I don't do very often. This wood stool was going to be thrown to the trash because it was painted a very bad black color. I had started sanding this down about a week ago.

- Defining the Problem- This project came to me as surprise because I found it in really bad condition. The stool looked like it needed to be thrown away because it was full of dust and the paint was chipping off. The stool was full of black paint, it might of even been spray paint.
- Create and consider options- There were a couple options to this project, I could of just thrown it away and bought a new one, I could of left it as is, I could of paid someone to do the job for me, or I could of done it myself.
- Refine selected directions - It wasn't too hard to decide which option I was going with. The first option was out the window of throwing it away, I wasn't going to leave it in bad condition, and I wasn't going to pay anyone either.
- Picking the winner- I choose to get my hands dirty and try this on my own.
Depiction of Creative Process
The goal I had in mind was to get it sanded down as best as possible. I wanted to leave a smooth finish when I apply the staining. The supplies I purchased include 3M sanding paper of 80 and 120 grit, Ryobi Edge Sander, Painting brushes, and Varathane Wood Stain. I ended up spending about 100 dollars on this project. The total time I spent shopping for supplies and sanding/painting stool was about 15 hours. It was a long process because it had many corners and edges that were hard to reach with the sander. What made it difficult was the paint, first of all it was not the right paint for wood, and second of all it was done very poorly.
Reflective
The first time I noticed this stool was about a year ago when it was sitting on a corner at my mother in laws. It looked like it hadn't been used in a long time because of the layer of dust. I saw this opportunity that I could not let go. The creativity came from watching a couple wood working shows, this helped me become inspired and start my very own project. It was well worth the time and money because now it is going to be part of our family. This is something I could pass on to my children and to my children's children.
